I feel for Hamlet and am able to understand him on a personal level being an actor myself. I am able to understand Hamlets complex emotions because I share similar values and interests. Hamlet is my personal favorite play by Shakespeare due to the depth of the characters most notably Hamlet. In my spare time I love acting, I feel it is a freeing activity that helps you clear your mind and express yourself creatively. When the players arrive during act 3 you can see Hamlet’s happiness is authentic this is because like me he enjoys the freedom that comes from acting. Acting is also the reason i’m capable of dealing with high pressure situations. Hamlet over the course of the play preserved his life. An amazing accomplishment considering the toxic environment was slowly dissolving Hamlet’s sanity. Hamlet was no doubt able to deal with an onslaught of dilemmas to some degree because he was able to escape his reality through acting. During my life I have faced various tense situations that have required me to control my emotions in order to preserve my own sanity and keep me out of trouble. I was able to control my erratic emotions due to the fact I preserved my emotions strictly to acting. That is why I strongly believe in monitoring your emotions and avoiding dramatic situations it allows you to focus on things that really matter like being reasonable. Reality tv is popular for the same reason, it provides an emotional escape for many people living stressful lives because the characters live in a world where things like make up are vital and worth freaking out over. Encourages people release themselves from the grip of overly dramatic emotions. Hamlet and I both understand the importance of logic and utilize acting to channel toxic emotions while others might use a less effective tactic and watch reality tv instead. In conclusion Hamlet and I both share a passion for the art of acting and enjoy the liberation from dramatic emotion.
Genuine acting has never been an easy task. After reading your post, I just realized what Hamlet must have been going through during the play and how that acting may have really benefited him. I know that acting can be an excellent way to cope, so it's definitely not far fetched that Hamlet acted around others to try and cover up his sadness and anger. I think that a fictional character who acts because of deeper and more severe issues must have been incredibly hard to develop and establish as a character for Shakespeare. It demonstrates how much thought was put into creating Hamlet and what chaos must have occurred in Shakespeare's head to create such a complex and deep…
I although I don't personally use acting as a method to control my emotions, I definitely can relate with the fact that the control over emotions is very important. I think for Hamlet it's someone of a defense mechanism that keeps him sane. I feel as if he were to not act and show all his emotions he might have mentally "blown up".
You also mentioned how people enjoy reality TV shows because it helps them to control their emotions. Personally, I do not struggle to control my emotions too often, so I don’t enjoy TV genres like reality TV shows (also cause I believe they are all staged). Even though I personally don’t struggle much with emotions, I do…
I love acting myself and have great respect for the way you use it to liberate your feelings! I think we all need some sort of creative outlet to dispose of our negative energy and share our positive energy. Most people pick music or painting, but I think acting is the most powerful way to release our emotions and feelings since you can actually show and make the audience believe that you are living with the ideas you present before them. It is hard to be a good actor and make others think you're a different person, but the beauty of acting is that you don't need to be the best in order to devote yourself to a role and…
Excellent blog post! As an actress myself, I completely understand your point of view. When Shakespeare represents Hamlet as an actor, it truly shows how much drama is evident in his life (both in the metaphorical sense as well in the theatrical sense). I agree that seeing Hamlet in ACT III react to the entering actors is quite heart warming as he displays authentic happiness. It was almost as if when the actors entered, Hamlet felt some consolation for his father’s death; as if seeing these actors was soothing and therapeutic for him. You explained nearly perfectly that actors often “utilize ating to channel toxic emotions while others might use a less effective tactic” because acting truly helps you channe…
